Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy®
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is a barefoot massage modality that uses deep compression and long soothing strokes. The therapist holds onto bars in the ceiling and provides all massage strokes with the feet. The massage therapist's body weight is used to apply pressure and relax the muscles! This technique is an extremely relaxing treatment!
Ashiatsu compression movements help relieve muscle pain and spasm while elongating the spine. A dramatic increase in circulation brings freshly oxygenated blood to the areas being treated. AOBT works like a steamroller for your lymphatic system, pushing toxins out at a very high rate. The continuous deep tissue pressure that is delivered with the feet covers much larger areas at once than your hands. The foot is broad and makes the compression smooth and sumptuous not bony or prodding like using an elbow, thumb or massage tool. After only a few treatments, clients have improved posture, increased range of motion, improvement in bodily functions, and feel a sense of well being!
Hot Stone Massage
This is Heike’s specialty. Hot stone massage is a form of “thermotherapy” in which hot stones are positioned on specific areas of the client’s body and allow for greater deep tissue manipulation. The stones used for a hot stone massage are usually basalt stones which are chalky grey in color but turn dark once oil is applied to them. For the treatment, the stones are heated to 130 degrees F. and placed strategically along the spine and/or between the toes. The therapist gently rubs the stone into muscles and tissues on both sides of the body; the firmness of the stone couples with the heat enhances the therapeutic benefits of the massage. Hot stone massage performed by a certified therapist can help relax the body’s muscles and soft tissues, alleviate pain, improve circulation and help rid the body of toxins.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue is a focused style of massage that is designed to release tension and chronic holding patterns that originate in the deeper layers of our muscles or connective tissues. Stressed muscles can block nutrients and oxygen from getting to where they need to go, and this will cause inflammation that allows toxins to build up in your muscle tissue. The inflammation and toxins contribute to pain and stress. Deep Tissue Massage breaks up and releases the built-up toxins by loosening the muscles.
By utilizing slow, strong strokes that move across the grain of the muscle or tendon to physically breakdown the “knots” or blockages in the tissue. Sound painful? It can be mildly uncomfortable, but only if you ask for it. Through consultation, your therapist will establish just how deep to go to ensure your massage is enjoyable and effective. You might be a bit sore the next day, like you would be after a workout, but that’s how you know its working.
Swedish massage is a general, systemic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body (muscles, ligaments, nerves and tendons) to induce a state of deep relaxation and blood circulation. It is a perfect way for anyone who is overly worked and stressed out to relax their body and mind.
Anyone who has problems from muscular strain will benefit from a Swedish massage. As the therapist relaxes the muscles the lymph system will have the ability to flush out all of the metabolic waste from the muscles. This will help you to heal faster.
While a Swedish massage works great to help people who suffer from health conditions it also works wonders on people who suffer from everyday troubles and concerns. The pressure used during a Swedish massage helps to relax the muscles and relieve all of the tension that has built up while the touch of the skin helps to relax the person and to clear their mind of anything that might be bothering them. Therapists suggest a Swedish massage to anyone who is feeling run down and on the brink of depression.
The Swedish massage can also be used as therapy for people who suffer from any type of debilitating joint disorder that causes them pain. This benefit of the Swedish massage works to increase the elasticity in the tissues, flexibility, and to reduce the paint that they feel. After the Swedish massage many of these people will find that they are able to use their joints more than before and with little to no pain.
Prenatal MassagePrenatal massage helps a pregnant women to relax tense muscles and reduce stress and anxiety associated with labor. It also works to relieve pain. The expanding womb puts a lot stress on the shoulders, abdominal area and back muscles of the mother, and lower back pain is very common during pregnancy. A prenatal massage therapist can apply pressure to specific sore spots to relieve tension and pain. However, certain pressure points should be avoided, such as the wrists and ankles, because they might stimulate pelvic and uterus muscles and lead to premature labor.
Reduced blood circulation and increased blood pressure during pregnancy might cause swelling of joints. Prenatal massage helps to improve circulation and addresses nerves inflamed by the pressure of the uterus. The massage helps to relieve sciatic nerve pain experienced by pregnant women. Research also shows that prenatal massage lowers stress hormones, which are major causes of pregnancy complications.
Prenatal massage is not recommended during the first trimester because it might increase the risk of miscarriage. Instead, begin massage in the second trimester.
Consult your doctor about the risk of massage therapy if you have certain conditions. For instance, massage is not recommended for people at risk of pre-term labor or those with clotting disorders.
